Description/Reflection

This piece was very fun to write, especially because I did not have to use correct grammar and usage. My inspiration for this piece is obviously Facebook, where most people spend a lot of time. I like how it put a twist on the original retelling of the Three Little Pigs story. I also put an ample amount of effort into this assignment, and I think it showed.

This assignment is my process piece for the portfolio. Because it was the first major formal essay we did this school year, it shows my starting point. Overall, I think I did fairly well on this assignment; it shows excellent organizational structure and no mistakes in grammar or mechanics. However, I feel I could have used more detail and explanation to get my point across better.

I feel that this writing piece is the best creative writing that I wrote this year. Because it was a continuation of the original short story, I was able to actually step into the characters' shoes as I wrote what each did and said. However, I did not like how the plot development felt rushed, but this is due to the fact that I did not spend a lot of time on the assignment. But overall, I felt I did a good job.
|
I picked this formal essay for my portfolio because I feel I did a good job analyzing the short stories. Because I understood the elements that I was writing about, I felt I sounded very professional. One thing I do not like about this piece is that sentence structure variety is lacking. I could have switched up my sentence structure a little bit to improve this piece.
|
I liked this piece because it showed my aptitude to successfully analyze the material I read. I think the best part of this piece is the fact that I chose the right quotes that supported the thesis, and I was able to support the reasons why they did. However, I need to work on not summarizing the plot as much as I am analyzing it.

This creative piece of writing is a found poem I wrote. In my opinion, this is the best poem I have written so far this year, and I like the way it flows. This poem was inspired by the novel The Notebook, a book I had recently finished reading right before I wrote this poem. I think this poem expresses a lot of emotion that the main character in the novel was feeling, and I, as the reader, can ultimately feel what he was feeling. I liked the concept of this assignment, which was finding words and phrases from another source and putting them into a poem. I think it showcases my creative ability quite well.
|
This is also a found poem I wrote, and I especially like this one because it is not serious at all, which is a nice alternative to most of the poems written that have a deep and serious meaning behind it. On the contrary, this poem has no real meaning that I was trying to portray, it was just written to be humorous. I think the best part of this poem is the fact that I put two random sources together, newspaper headlines and medication labels, and made a completely contradictory poem.
|
I chose to put this poem in my portfolio because I really like the way in which I wrote this poem. I like how it has vivid and expressive imagery, including metaphors and examples of personification. However, I wish I had made this poem longer, to include more examples and metaphors. Because this poem is a Spinoff poem, I got my inspiration by Kathleen Raine's poem "The Unloved."

This piece was the last formal essay I wrote this year, and it allowed me to compare my writing to the essays I wrote at the beginning of the year. The best part of this piece is my in depth analysis of fear, and I felt that I did a good job on this assignment because I enjoyed doing the research and learning about fear was very interesting. One part I could improve on is proof reading my paper some more to catch those overlooked mistakes. But overall, I think this was a very effective piece.
